Day 5: Backlinks = Good Organic Search Engine Boost

July 18, 2008 by

Yesterday we covered the idea behind using Social bookmarking websites to generate traffic. Since I started using the auto-social poster program that I discussed yesterday I have tripled my daily views! Yes, tripled!

Auto Social Poster

Submit to over 50+ Social Bookmarking Sites Automatically!

This is all on auto-pilot now and I don’t have to spend countless hours attending to the social websites and  can focus on other traffic generating sources. An extreme lifesaver if you ask me! I was spending way to much time before on trying to bookmark my sites and really wasted alot of precious resources.

Today I’m going to discuss the benefit of backlinks, where to get them, and how you should focus your time generating backlinks. As stated in some of the previous days search engine optimization is crucial so that the Google spiders know what the content of your website is about. Ranking well in Google and other search engines goes farther then search engine optimization. If search engine optimization is your only mode of attack in your attempt to rank high then you probably won’t have significant results. That’s because Google’s search engines, and many others depend on something called backlinks.

A backlink is when another website has a link to your website somewhere on their website. That’s it! Although your goal isn’t to have just ANY website link to your website. The goal is to have a website with high page rank and that is also in your niche to link to you. Google will then notice that the high ranking PR website has linked to your website and thus deems that your website is of value and significance.

Social bookmarking websites are a great backlink source, although I’d like to discuss today some other alternatives just to give you an overview of the idea of backlinking. In the upcoming days I will break down each backlinking idea even further and give you some true expert advice regarding the various techniques.

Article directories are a fantastic source for backlinks. As I have said many times over the course of my 30 Day Guide Google LOVES content. Article directories are only content, and usually very unique content. Thus Google loves these websites and ranks them extremely well. Therefore don’t overlook the article directories, you may need to get out of your normal routine and write some content. I will discuss article directories in depth in an upcoming day.

Blog directories and general website directories can also be great sources for backlinks. Although it really depends on the source of the backlinks and how Google ranks that specific directory.  Don’t just join any and all directories, make sure that they aren’t ‘spammy’ and that Google actually appreciates them.

Please keep in mind today is just a general overview and introduction to the backlinking idea and how it will benefit you in Google’s search engines. Each method I’ve posted above or will post in today’s guide will be reviewed much more in depth. So stay tuned for the upcoming days!

Here are some things that you absolutely DON’T want to do when it comes to generating backlinks. Things such as link exchanges, link exchanges are extremely obvious to Google’s spiderbots and Google will hurt and potential ‘slap’ your account as a result of participating in these programs. So again do not participate in link exchange programs. You are putting your web domain at risk of literally being slapped off of the organic search results. Not something you ever want to have to deal with.

Here are some fast facts in regards to good Google Backlinking techniques:

  • Relevance of backlink

You want backlinks from web-sites that are similar and relevant to your websites/blogs subject! Don’t try and get a link from a trucking website if you have a web-site on anti-virus software.

  • Pagerank of Linking Page

The pagerank of that specific website that is linking to you is extremely important. Page rank is on a scale from one to ten. If the website you are getting linked from has a page rank of 5 or above it will significantly help your site in the organic search results. I’ve read a statistic that one PR 7 link is like having over 1 million PR 1 links!

  • Anchor Text Content and Link

It’s a good idea to have your subject/main keyword in the link that is coming in if at all possible. If your website is about Bass Fishing and that is the main keyword/content on your site then try to have the link’s title coming in as Bass Fishing rather then something like Fishing Website or Frank’s Website. The anchor text is very important as well, but if it is out of your control then it is still good having a high PR link.

  • IP Seperation

This is extremely important. Most new people think that having one host (one I.P.) that hosts all your websites and interlinking them is a great idea to gain backlinks. Guess what? Google identifies your I.P. associated with your website, and then determines I.P. address of your other websites. If they notice that they are all interlinking from the same I.P. then you haven’t accomplished anything worthwhile and may actually be damaging your potential page rank. Don’t link all your websites together unless you have a specific host for each seperate domain.

  • Number of outgoing links

If you have found a website that has a high PR and that is related to your website and willing to put your link on then great! Just one more thing to consider though. If this website has 1,000’s or even tens of thousands of outgoing links to other websites like yours then the PR that is distributed to your website is significantly less than if that website only had 5-10 outgoing links.

Welcome to the idea of backlinks and the significance that they have on your websites page rank and organic rank! Most people really don’t understand the true significance of this and dismiss it. Don’t and try to build a great list of backlinks that are content associated and with a high PR. I’ve seen some instant results on other websites that I run once I have generated a backlink from a high PR website. It can make or break your Google rankings, so get started on the process today.
