Writing Articles for Quality Backlinks – Day 8

July 24, 2008 by

Today we are going to discuss one of my favorite methods for gaining quality backlinks. Writing articles for quality backlinks can be tedious but the benefit can really be astounding if you follow my instructions.

What are Articles?

Articles are just that, articles written for some purpose or website. These articles will be submitted to well known and reputable Article directories on the internet. The point of creating and writing an article is so that you can create an abundance of backlinks as well as building credibility. Sometimes article writing will get boring and a chore to do but I highly suggest article marketing as the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives.

If you aren’t a writer, or feel confident enough to write your own articles then you can hire a ghost writer/article writer for you. I suggest Elance for finding writers as they are the most competitive and will allow you to get the best bang for your buck. I’d suggest paying anywhere between $5-10 for a quality well written 500 word article. Also when you are thinking about hiring a writer make sure that you check some of his feedback as well as some portfolio work. You don’t want someone that isn’t a native English speaker or someone that is a horrible writer. So do your due diligence before hiring anyone to write for you!

ELANCE

Your source for content writers!

Articles are whatever you want them to be really, but there are a few things that they need to be.  They need to be informative and helpful in some way. Also attempt to make them easily readable, that way someone will possibly click forward to your website/blog.  If you write something off in five minutes and did little to no research or proofreading it won’t benefit anyone. This will not add any credibility to you either.

Benefits of Article Marketing

With article marketing you are enabling yourself to have free traffic and visibility! Unless you are paying a ghost writer or content writer, article marketing is free and cost efficient! That’s why alot of ‘bum marketers’ love this method. I personally love it for this reason alone.

Articles establish you as an expert and allows you to build rapport and trust of the readers. Obviously this goes without saying. If you can build rapport for free and seem like an established expert then the readers will be more likely to buy your product, sign up for your website, or whatever else you are trying to have the potential person do.

Your focused keywords and articles will reach a highly targeted audience. By focusing your articles keywords and subjects around your topic you will be able to focus your traffic and make it a very targeted group. This is essential and should be the goal of anyone’s website. If your website is on Bass Fishing it is most likely that targeting someone that is looking for information about a certain television show or band is a bad idea! Articles allow you to focus on a specific target.

How to Write a Winning Article!

Writing articles are nothing complicated, at least I don’t think they are. There are just some things that you need to consider when writing your article. First and foremost, resort back to the Free Wordtracker Tool and do a keyword research for the topic that you are going to write about. Make sure to have articles that are similar to your website, otherwise the backlinks won’t mean as much and the conversions of people that come to your website or blog to sales will be very low. Remember you are looking for targeted traffic here, traffic that will potentially turn into a sale at some point. So punch in the main keyword that you are trying to target into the Wordtracker tool and find some potential keywords. Let’s go with the Bass Fishing keyword again and try and find some good SEO friendly titles for our article that we are going to write.

Bass Fishing Techniques pops up as one of the most searched terms, so let’s get a friendly S.E.O. article written for that keyword since it seems to be a high search term around bass fishing and will complement our bass fishing website well.

Basics for S.E.O. Articles

  • Title : Make sure that your Article title has the keyword in it, especially in the beginning. For example “Bass Fishing Techniques by the Pro!”
  • Keyword in first 90 characters of the article! Just as it says, make sure that your keyword that you are trying to target is in the first 90 characters of the article itself.
  • Sprinkled Keyword: Make sure that your keyword can be found two or three more times within the article itself. Supposedly if you have the keyword in bold, or as an anchor text for a link it will weigh more relevance to the keyword.
  • Conclusion Keyword: Put your keyword somewhere in your conclusion of your article.

Not that hard is it? By applying those techniques you can target many great keywords and generate a high placing in the Google organic results for the keyword that your articles target. Why is that?? As stated before Google loves original content, and who has more of this then an article directory with hundreds of thousands of articles! Google ranks these websites well and thus you can literally capture a top 3 position in a matter of hours after your article goes live!

Article Directories

Article promotion techniques will either make or break you! So make sure that you follow these standards so you don’t end up wasting your time when you have created these articles. First make sure that you submit your article to the TOP article directory websites. Also make sure to only submit to two or three article directory websites or your article will be deemed duplicated material and it will most likely knock down your ranking for the keyword that you are trying to target. In fact I go as far as rewriting every article so that this doesn’t happen to me!

Here are some great Article Directories:

I’m only going to supply those three sources in today’s post because I feel that they are the best and also because  if I add more then I know people will submit to nearly all of them that I have listed and won’t see the results they should if they only submit to those three.

Writing a Call to Action

This is it boys and girls, the whole point of writing the article in the first place.  You get provided a ‘resource box’ at the bottom of the document that allows you to plug yourself and your website address in to get the benefit of the backlink from the website as well as the call to action that tells your reader what to do. Here are some techniques for writing a great call to action/resource box.

  • Ask a question or state a problem that will draw a readers emotion
  • Create a clear picture of the problem so that the reader will feel motivated to do something and fix the “problem” presented
  • Offer a solution followed by your call to action, your call to action will be your website and blog where they can solve that problem

Remember though that your articles, if well written and thought out WILL be swiped by other sources and people. There really isn’t much you can do about this and be warned that it will most likely happen. That’s why in my resource boxes I typically have my keyword hyperlinked and then a full version of my web-address. That way if someone swipes my article and de-links all my links in the article I still have my link visible!

If you want to be extremely successful and see some very fantastic results, try and write a minimum of an article a day. The results will be astonishing, I guarantee it!
