Squidoo Marketing – Day 13

July 31, 2008 by

Squidoo Marketing is another successful way to drive traffic to your website. If you haven’t heard of Squidoo then you can thank me later.  In a nutshell Squidoo is a free space on the internet that Google’s search engine loves. Anyone can make a lense (a lense is your page on Squidoo) but in order to be successful with Squidoo then there are some steps you need to follow. If my internet marketing blog is helping you PLEASE COMMENT!

How Good is Squidoo for You?

Quite simply it is great and I suggest everyone to learn the ins and outs of marketing via Squidoo.  Traditionally people just create a website, then advertise via whatever medium they can whether it be ideas mentioned in previous days or paid advertising. Web 2.0 has allowed for alternative FREE methods of marketing that have some very fantastic results. Squidoo is a rather new website being created only a few years ago and is now one of them most visited websites on the internet. It became successful because of a very good marketing campaign as well as the overall way Squidoo was designed. Squidoo is very Google friendly, and as a result allows for very good organic Google results for very little work.

Squidoo Lens’ is a page that users build, and allow for mini sites called Lens. By making sure that your Squidoo Lens is keyword rich, you will begin to move up the ranks on the organic results. Thus allowing you to drive FREE traffic to your website by obtaining great organic results.

Certain steps are necessary to achieve these great organic results, don’t just think you throw up some content and pictures and call it a day.

How do I create a powerful and successful Lens with Squidoo Marketing?

As with anything on the internet you need content, and with Squidoo you want a variety of content. This means things like articles, Youtube videos, and other interactive content. Thankfully Squidoo makes it easy for us to add this sort of dynamic

Here is how you are going to want to set up your Squidoo to make it powerful and even more S.E.O. friendly.

Squidoo Address – Make your squidoo address your targeted keyword if possible. For example if you are trying to target Bass Fishing then try and get your squidoo.com URL as http://www.squidoo.com/bassfishing. Keep in mind though this as well, if you can’t get bassfishing as your URL then try using a hyphen. Like bass-fishing or even alternatives like bass-fishing-1. This may not be the best alternative but its still better to have the keyword as your Squidoo URL.

Title – Make your TITLE the keyword as well, this will be the title of your Squidoo

Title of Text Box – Again for your first title of your wordbox use the targeted keyword.

Add Table of Contents – Be sure to add a table of contents after your intro textbox.

Create 2 Text Boxes – Make sure to have unique content on these wordboxes that is associated with your actual Squidoo page. Write a unique article 300 words minimum and put them in 2 text boxes.

Youtube Video – Head over to Youtube and find a relevant video about whatever your Squidoo lens is about. Then under add module choose the Youtube Module and enter the URL of the youtube video that you selected. Simple as that.

Guestbook Module – Interactive is your goal with your Squidoo, the more visits to your Squidoo the better ranking it will achieve within Squidoo and Google organic results. Add a guestbook so people can add some feedback. Ask a compelling question to help begin the feedback process.

Poll – Add a poll as well, this will also add to your Squidoo

At this point it is up to you what you do, but add maybe another video or two or even another text article. The more content the better, as goes with anything on the internet. The key to having a successful Squidoo occurs with updating your Lens often. Squidoo is very picky about this and ranks Lens’ that are updated often with higher results! Squidoo marketing isn’t hard if you simply apply these easy steps.

Squidoo is a great way to not only earn money but also drive traffic to your site. I have been using it for sometime now and have found it to be a very invaluable tool. While I wouldn’t be surprised that Google would consider taking action against this service, I myself have not noticed any problems as of yet. Great article

I would like to add that Squidoo has already gone thru the ‘growing pains’ that come with websites that are successful as quickly as Squidoo has been. Measures were taken to protect the Squidoo site and its lensmasters from future problems with Google and other search engines. In other words, spammers are no longer welcome and are quickly removed – IF they ever get published at all.

    Again, great article!

Good article. I watch my lenses real close in the search results. It appears Google has been having a love hate relationship with Squidoo for the last year.

It is so weird. I have some lens that have tons of quality links to them and are optimized well. They get top 10 in Google for several months. Then one day they just disappear for a month or two. Then they come back to top ten and then disappear again.

Once lens I have did this appearing and disappearing act at least 8 times last year.

Lately it appears Google is filtering out a lot of my lenses.

    Hi CJ!

You receive it from the tag pages that were indexed before Squidoo implemented the nofollow tags. The way it’s been explained to me, those tag pages will eventually drop out of the search engines. They are not being updated.

So enjoy it while you can.
    Tiff 😉

Thanks for the insight on Twitter. Sounds like a sure thing to add to the marketing mix. I’m taking a professional internet marketing course in SF and I’ll be sure to share this resource with the group!

I’ll have to admit there’s quite a bit I’ve not included as far as actual “how to’s” but at least posts like this might get more people using Twitter, which helps everyone.
