RSS Feed Directories And Help – Day 7

July 22, 2008 by

RSS Feeds are extremely important and so are the RSS directories available, if you don’t think so let me fill you in on some reason why they are important and how they can help you with traffic time and time again.

What is RSS?

RSS has multiple defenitions, the acronym can stand for: Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, RDF Site Summary. Let’s not get caught up to much as to what the acronym stands for but rather how it can benefit you. RSS is an XML based protocol which will offer a very simple syndication of your web’s updated content.

In summary RSS is a content delivery system that will allow your readers to easily read information from your website. RSS makes sure that your content gets delivered! This is crucial because you want to make sure that your target market is actually reading what you have to write.

Finding your RSS Feed

If you have followed my days until this point then you should be using a WordPress blog. WordPress has a built in RSS feed ability and doesn’t require any more work or plug ins. Depending on a variety of factors like your theme and wordpress version each feed may be different. Here are some lists of potential RSS feeds. Copy and paste a few of them in a new web browser screen until you find one that works and display’s the RSS feed icon and asks you to subscribe to the RSS feed.

Great now you have your feed so that you can begin to submit to the thousands of RSS feed directories available. This will help with your backlinking to increase your Google organic search results domination as well as increase page views from readers on the internet. You are going to want to now submit your feeds to as many directories that you can submit to. Here is a list of all the directories available to submit to.

Wow, thats quite a list and will absolutely keep you busy for some time. By adding yourself to these directories you are not only enabling yourself to have potentially thousands of readers having access to your RSS feeds but also have another avenue for pinging your website and generating some quality backlinks. These do take time to enter manually although it will be extremely beneficial for the reasons stated above.

The key though is to make sure that you have content on your website and or blog. Without content people will not subscribe to your feeds and will have no reason to come back. By having content that people can use you will notice the influx of return visitors.

I love RSS’s, but at the same time hate them. Think of it this way, whoever doesn’t come to your site (ie feeds) is a potential lost on advertising cash.

Thanks for these lists! The dofollow’s, this RSS one, the directories listed! I’ve been actively working hard now for some time on this. Thanks alot.

May I send you/contact you with some more RSS feed places? I have so more that I think should be added to this list.

Seems ok when first added to my page. Pulled the latest post. But then I updated the blog and the feed doesn’t update on my facebook page. I guess I just have to add links by hand since this doesn’t work. Anyone know how to remove this thing?

As familiar as blogging is to many, many others are still quite new to this world. A desciption or link to a page that explains how to use all of the tags and links at the bottom of the blog (DiggThis, del.icio.us, etc.) makes the blog more accessible and user-friendly to newcomers.

I wondered how you were doing that. I think I might just have to use this plugin.

Thanks for contributing! That’s an excellent suggestion and something I should have had in the post. I’ve been doing this for about a year now but remember how overwhelming it was to learn about all the different tools and communication options.

    Great overview

I also heavily recommend the About page – always good to know more about who you are reading…

How can RSS help to bring more traffic to your site when they are reading the posts on their Readers?
